1 Day / SOFIA - BACHKOVO MONASTERY - ASEENS' FORTERSS - PLOVDIV
Our meeting point in Sofia is behind St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral at 09:00 o’clock. After 2.30 hours drive mostly on the highway we will visit Bachkovo Monastery – the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria. Over there we will make a walk within the boundaries of the monastery complex, will enter the church Virgin Mary built in 1604, will make some photos and enjoy the power of the place. The guide will explain about the history and architecture of the monastery. After that we head to Aseens’fortress – a medieval fortress where the most impressive thing is the view. We recommend you to wear comfortable flat shoes as the terrain here is rocky and steep (the cobblestone streets in Plovdiv are not also suitable for uncomfortable shoes). After the visit of the fortress we will go to Plovdiv which is 22 kilometers away. There we will have a lunch first before continuing with our walking city tour.
The walking part of our programme includes a tour of the old town – the Ancient Roman Theatre, Balabanova house – a symbol of Plovdiv’s cultural life, the pharmacy museum Hippocrates where you will soak in pharmacy and medicine of the Bulgarian Revival 19th century and of the turn of the century.
Around 17:30 o’clock our tour will finish and we will check-in in the hotel. Overnight in Plovdiv.
