- Make sure to bring cash with you, because there are not always POS terminals and ATMs available;

- Wear comfortable warm clothes and shoes, and you can bring hiking poles, as well;

- Bring sunscreen and a hat, especially during the summer;

- The Rila monastery is an active orthodox temple, which means that wearing clothes with bare shoulders and exposed legs is forbidden;

- Don't forget to try the local pastries, called "mekitsa", which are the pride of the Rila region;
