1 Day / SOFIA - PLOVDIV - STAROSEL - SOFIA
According to historic and archeological researches the territory presently occupied by the state of Bulgaria may well be the first geographical region where vines were planted and wine produced. This tourist programme gives you the opportunity to combine the wine tasting with a sightseeing tour of the second biggest city in Bulgaria – Plovdiv. The tour brings the spirit of the Thracian times as both places had preserved its authenticity and greatness – Plovdiv was originally a Thracian settlement before becoming a major Roman city, and the wine production in Bulgaria has a long history, dating back to the times of the Thracians.
The starting point is the famous St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral in Sofia. At 09:00 o’clock we head up to the second biggest city in Bulgaria – Plovdiv. After 2 hours highway driving we will reach Plovdiv and will start with our walking tour there. We will make a walk in the old town of Plovdiv where you will visit some old houses, the church of St. Constantin and Helena, the best preserved Roman Theater in Bulgaria, the newly reopened Ancient Stadium, the Ethnographic Museum, also known as the Renaissance house. The tour continues to the Dzhumaya square with the Mosque. Free time for lunch and short walk through Plovdiv.
After having a lunch we will continue our tour with the wine tasting in Starosel village. There we will visit “Starosel”complex where you can enjoy a restaurant, a wine-cellar, a distillery, an enoteca, and many other interesting things. Here you will have unforgettable experience trying 5 different types of wine combined with a walk around the wine-cellar.
Around 16:30 î’clock we will start our bus trip back to Sofia where should arrive around 19:00 o’clock.
